For when Asterius said, “The Word was begotten before the ages,” the statement itself proves he is lying, in that he not only misses the main point but also the literal meaning. For if the Proverb says, “He laid my foundation before the age” (8:23), how does he say, “He was begotten before the ages”? For having his foundation laid before the age and being begotten before the ages are two different things.
