Italicized text is a reconstruction of the thoughts of Marcellus which are paraphrased by Eusebius. It is included here because it demonstrates Marcellus’ understanding of his opponents’ position as polytheism.

And also his father Paulinus, having been convinced by these words, does not shrink from both saying and writing these things, once saying, “Christ is a second god” and “he has become a more human god,” and once determining that “he is a creature.” For this is the case, and once as he was passing through Ancyra he claimed to us that “Christ is a creature.” I have refuted Paulinus. He says there are multiple gods.
