For before the universe existed the Word was in the Father. But when the Almighty God decided to make all things in heaven and on earth, the creation of the world needed a efficacious activity. And because of the fact that there was no one else but God (for it is confessed that all things were made through him), the Word, who also was already mentally preparing it from the inside, went forth and became the maker of the world, as the Prophet Solomon teaches us, saying, “When he prepared heaven, I helped him,” and, “When he fixed the waters under heaven, when he strengthened the foundations of the earth, I was arranging it with him. It was I in whom he rejoiced” (Pro 8:28-30). For the father was rightly joyful as he made all things with wisdom and power through the Word.
