Therefore, as we take consideration of his flesh, he appears to be distinguished from the Father with respect to activity alone only until the approaching time of judgment appears, so that when those who formerly pierced him look on the one they have pierced according to the prophecy, in this way also the future will happen accordingly (Zech 12:10; Jn 19:37). For when everyone at the time of the end is about to be subjected to Christ, as the Apostle said, then “he will be subjected to the one who subjected all things to him” (1 Cor 15:28).
Now what do we learn about the human flesh which the Word assumed for our sake almost four hundred years ago? Will the Word have it also in the ages to come or only until the time of the judgment? It is necessary that what was said by the prophet be confirmed in deed. He says, “They will look upon the one they have pierced” (Zech 12:10; Jn 19:37). And obviously they pierced the flesh.
