Letter of Hosius and Protogenes to Pope Julius
CPL | 539a |
Date | 343 |
Incipit | Meminimus et tenemus et habemus |
Modern Text | C. Turner, Ecclesiae Occidentalis Monumenta Iuris Antiquissima, 1.2.644 |
Notes | This letter accompanied the creed of the Serdican council, which was probably also composed by Hosius and Protogenes. It is an apology to assure Julius that the intention of the formula was not to replace that of Nicaea, but to provide a more thorough explanation. See J.N.D.
