But having departed from the true knowledge he showed us now also his artful speculation. For since he is not able to construct from the divine scriptures what he would like, he runs back to the wisest fathers, as he thinks them, saying, “The wisest of the fathers in their own writings declared this very thing.” Asterius says that his fathers have declared a declaration and written a dogma about God from their own inclinations. For the word “dogma” has to do with human will and knowledge. And the dogmatic skill of the physicians and those things of the philosophers called dogmas sufficiently testify to us that such is the case. And I think that no one is unaware of the fact that also things decreed by an assembly are still called the dogmas of the assembly.
