So how could Asterius write that the image of the invisible God (Col 1:15) is the Word of God? For images are images of the things of which they are images and they are indicators of things which are not there such that the things which are not there also seem to be seen through them. But if it happens that since God is invisible the Word also is invisible, how can the Word by himself be image of the invisible God? For he too is invisible. For it is impossible for something unseen to ever be shown by something invisible.
