ACO Series 1, Tome 2, (Council of Chalcedon, AD 451)
Volume 1, Part 1: Act 1; Letter Collections
This fascicle of the ACO begins (pp. 3-52) with several collections of letters that give background to the council’s proceedings. The council proceedings proper begin on p. 55. Note that during the proceedings sections of the minutes of the Council of Ephesus (A.D. 449; CPG 8937) are read aloud. The minutes of Ephesus also contain minutes from councils held in 448-449 in Constantinople (CPG 8904-8907) and some of these are also read aloud at Chalcedon. We will not note in our chart when these minutes are read, but direct the reader to the chart in Price and Gaddis’s translation, vol. 1, pp. 113-114. The left-hand column below indicates page numbers for the sections contained in the English translation of R. Price and M. Gaddis, The Acts of the Council of Chalcedon, vol. 1. Translated Texts for Historians 45 (Liverpool University Press, 2005).
